FRIENDS OF HISTORY. Roman Christmas, Aztec Christmas: syncretism in the winter solstice festivities
5:30 p.m.
Long before Christmas, for cultures around the world, the winter solstice was the most important time of year, a celebration of gift-giving and the lighting of candles to ward off the darkness. We will explore the Roman origins of our Christmas celebration and how it spread to Central America, blending with Aztec traditions. We will conclude with an explanation of our Museum Nativity Scene, inspired by Mexican culture.
